Yes, the mechanism locks when raised.
We recommend with a dual or triple motor “Tilt in Space” action and possibly with greater cushioning.
There is sometimes some confusion about “Dual Motor” chairs.
Standard Dual Motor chairs have an independent footrest and backrest so the chair can go virtually flat. However, for most people a Dual Motor “Tilt in Space” action offers much more support, pressure relief on the seat and raises you legs higher than your hips. Triple motor chairs offer many more positional options and we can advise on these.
This is very important for many as raising your legs on a footstool is not always comfortable and a continuous footrest is essential. This is a feature of “Tilt in Space” actions.
Whilst most of our British made chairs offer a head cushion that is both movable and can have different levels of fibre filling a really good solution is a Quad motor chair which features a powered headrest.
These have a dual motor reclining action and an additional motor to push out both the headrest and lumbar cushions.
There are a number of options available from lateral supports or a “T backrest” to a fully bendable backrest with a softer density cushion in the central area as feature in our Fitform range of chairs.
Generally firmer cushioning offers greater support and ultimately comfort particularly for people who suffer from back pain but also from medical conditions such as Multiple Scelrosis. Our Fitform chair range are highly recommended as they have been designed specifically to provide a the ultimate seating solution.

Lateral support cushions incorporated into a backrest provide a good option for our British Chair range or the Bucket backrest featured in the Fitform Vario chair range.
What chair do you recommend for back pain? Every individual is different, but a pronounced lumbar support is important and this is featured various backrests. Our Fitform Vario range offers an inflatable lumber cushion as well as infinite positioning options as well as an independent footrest when in the relax mode which varies the pressure at the base of the spine.
A good quality British “made to measure chair” with a Dual or triple motor action or a Fitform Vario 570.
Unlike a standard single or dual motor chair “Tilt in space” keeps the user’s hips, knees, and ankles at a fixed 90-degree angle while tilting the entire seat back for maximum pressure relief, support, and blood circulation It also facilitates a higher leg lift.
How close to the wall can the chair go? For the vast majority of customers, the recline action will allow ample clearance between the back of the backrest and the wall. However occasionally where the back of chair must be almost against the wall we would recommend a “Wall Hugger action”.
